Now, he’s sharing his second single from the album, “Prize Fighter,” with his music video and announcing several new tour dates. Tyler T. Williams directed the black-and-white video. Following the tour dates, see below.
Powers said in a press release about “Prizefighter”: I grew up with three of them, so our home was doomsday, but we had more sugar cereal. It was a real pleasure. I was punched in the face and pushed out of bed into a file cabinet so I didn’t have to look. Beyond that, we were homeschooled. Four weirdos staying home all day, loving and hating each other, playing baseball every day in the backyard, throwing rocks at each other’s heads, and laughing until they puke. Our bond is forever. That song I started years ago meant too much to me to complete. i was scared of that Afraid of not making it great… so I put it on the table.
“A few weeks before I left to make the record, I looked through old voice memos while watching VHS. drugstore cowboyI heard a 30 second sketch called “Prizefighter”. It was as if an angel had fallen from the sky and told me how to end it. “Don’t make it great,” she said. “Make it true.” She finished the song in two days. ”
Tickets for the Youth Lagoon tour go on general sale this Friday (April 7) at 10am local time, with pre-sales starting tomorrow (April 5) at 10am local time.
when Heaven is a junkyard was announced, Youth Lagoon shared the album’s first single, “Idaho Alien,” in a music video. “Idaho Alien” was one of his songs of the week.
As Youth Lagoon, Powers has released three albums. hibernation year,2013 Mysterious Baghouseand 2015’s Savage Hills BallroomHe then retired the name in 2016 and released two albums simply as Trevor Powers. mulberry violence And a surprise release for 2020 Capricorn.
In an earlier press release about the initial name change, Powers said, “I felt like I was being strangled.” I lost it.”
He added: It tells me I’m worthless, ugly, broken, and so on. It’s like motel TV, stuck to unstoppable channels, with static, endless late-night ads and preachers screaming the end of the world. ”
Things took a turn for the worse in October 2021, when Powers had a bad reaction to an over-the-counter drug, according to a press release. Press According to his release, his stomach became a “continuous geyser of acid” that coated Powers’ “larynx and vocal cords.” 8 months. ”
“I’ve seen seven doctors and multiple specialists. I’ve lost over 30 pounds. No one has helped me,” Powers said.
By Christmas that year, he could no longer speak. “He didn’t know if he could speak again, let alone sing,” he said. “It felt symbolic in a way. I’ve been swallowing fear all my life, and now I’m back here.”
After this trying time, Powers took a renewed focus on songwriting, writing about her hometown rather than the wider world. “I’ve always written about things that are far away, but the entire time I was in Idaho, the best material was right in front of me.”
This included the album’s first single, “Idaho Alien”. About the song, Powers said: They are twisted, but pure. “Idaho Alien” comes from that space. Home often feels like a Jim Thompson book. One of my neighbors smokes meth all day and mows the lawn at 2am. Her boyfriend lives in a tent in her backyard and one day she locks him out of the house and tells him went so far as to stabb her. He was sent to prison for ten years. She told me she still loved him. Last time I asked her not to mow her lawn at 2 a.m., we talked about aliens and Subway sandwiches, and every November, a group of churches rake her leaves and tell me about Jesus. I talk. i don’t think it’s working. ”
Summarizing the album, Powers added:Heaven is a junkyard It’s about us all. A brother goes to war, a drunken father learns to cuddle, a mother falls in love, a neighbor steals mail, a cowboy takes drugs, a friend skips school, cries in the bathtub, a dog catches a rabbit, It’s a story about children playing in tall grass.
