There’s been a lot of new music this week, so here are some of my picks for your weekend playlist.
1. Noah Kahan – Stick Season (Will All Be Here Forever)
Rising indie folk artist Noah Kahan is stealing listeners’ hearts. It’s not hard to love his music, a perfect blend of The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons and Hosier. his new album Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever), 21 songs that are purely Noah-like are recorded. The Vermont-born singer delivers raw storytelling with a symphony of banjos and strings set against country-influenced backgrounds. It’s worth listening from top to bottom.
2. Niall Horan – The Show
Niall Horan releases first album since 2020 Spectacle, show, play…And wow, does this feel like the moment Horan soared into superstardom with former bandmate Harry Styles? Dare I say it’s his best? Through 10 songs, Nile takes you on a journey of love and positivity. This album is one you can already imagine bringing together fans from all walks of life. This is a body of work Horan has been working on for years, and it’s a special album that deserves to be rewarded.
3. Carter Rubin – “Last”
Carter Rubin may only be 17 years old, but his voice already has a timeless quality to it, and his new single, “Last Time,” perfectly captures it. It’s an honest song about falling in love at a young age and perfectly showcases Carter’s star-strength vocal prowess. With the nature of a classic summer anthem, “Last Time” is Carter’s Rubin submission to Songs of the Summer.
4. Will Linley – “Tough (Girls Song)”
Fans love Will Linley because he’s able to create tracks that perfectly encapsulate what it feels like to be a member of Gen Z and perfectly sums up what we’re all feeling all the time. A musical personification of “do your own stunts”, Lynley is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and always showing off her impeccable talent. “Tough (The Girls Song)” gives him an ’80s vibe that never gets old and a fun single about the end of a long-distance relationship.
5. Arctic Lakes – “My Weakness”
Arctic Lake, the duo of Emma Foster and Paul Holliman, are gearing up to release a new EP. How do you make it look so easy? On the new single “My Weakness”. It’s classic “Arctic Lake,” an open-hearted single about how being in love can be both your greatest strength and weakness. Alongside the single, the duo released a video of them speeding down a neon-lit highway to the song.
6. Baby Queen – “Dream Girl”
Baby Queen, arguably London’s biggest ‘anti-pop’ star, is here with ‘Dream Girl’…a pop-punk fusion that brings together the two diametrically opposed sides of her encounter. The song is about Baby Queen falling in love with a woman who was already in a relationship with a man and she wanted what she couldn’t have.
