Spotify, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan called off their relationship this week, citing three years, $20 million and just 13 episodes of content. What was the problem here, other than the seemingly obvious?
According to Spotify, Sun, we are considering removing content that does not meet audience demand. The company’s CEO, Daniel Ek, has admitted to “overpaying and overinvesting,” while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also had their podcasts canceled last year because they didn’t get enough listeners. Michelle Obama seems to have suffered the same fate.

“We will be very enthusiastic about how we invest in content trading in the future,” Ek told the BBC. “And those that aren’t performing well will obviously not be updated. And those that are performing well will naturally be considered on a case-by-case basis based on relative value.”

This deal was also brokered in 2020 and was worth $1 reported at $100 million.
