Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported that two planes “probably collided” at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, citing Japan’s Ministry of Transport.
The two planes involved, belonging to EVA Air and Thai Airways International, are believed to have collided near a taxiway around 11 a.m., NHK reported on Saturday morning.
According to information from the Tokyo Aviation Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the detailed situation is being confirmed.
The broadcaster said the EVA Air plane had 207 passengers and crew on board, while the Thai Airways plane had another 264 people on board. No injuries have been reported.
The runway near where the two planes were stopped has been shut down, leaving only three planes in operation.
NHK’s airport video footage shows part of the Thai Airways aircraft’s wing missing, with debris lying on a nearby runway.
The video also shows aviation staff clearing the debris.
The Tokyo Airport Office has dispatched staff to the site to confirm the situation.
This is a developing story. It will continue.
