New shows in San Diego, Montreal, Atlanta, Portland, and promises to visit Mexico and Latin America
April 5, 2023 | 11:32 AM ET
The Cure have announced an expanded 2023 ‘Songs of a Lost World’ North American tour with additional dates in San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta, as well as a new show in Portland, Oregon. Frontman Robert Smith has also hinted that concerts in Mexico and South America will be announced later this month.
The newly announced dates are The Cure’s latest effort to get tickets into the hands of fans following a frustrating initial sales process. Fans who were previously issued a verified fan code but were unable to purchase tickets for shows in San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta will be the first to get tickets for the new dates. The May 31st concert in Portland was used as an “experiment” to see if simply using a non-transferable ticket policy without using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan Experience would provide sufficient protection. Confirming.
“Songs of a Lost World” marks The Cure’s first North American tour in seven years. The band initially attempted to make the show as affordable as possible by having zero “platinum” or “dynamically priced” tickets, only selling to those registered as Ticketmaster Authorized Fans to prevent scalping. Despite these efforts, many fans were locked out of tickets, while others were subject to “excessively high” transaction fees (Smith said Ticketmaster gave partial demanded a refund). As of last week, the band had canceled 7,000 tour tickets obtained through scalpers.
Authorized fan presales for the new show in San Diego, Montreal, and Atlanta begin Friday, April 7th. The remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, April 8th. Tickets for the Portland show will go on sale on April 7th through his Ticketmaster.
and TweetSmith asks fans to “DO NOT BUY TICKETS IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO THE SHOW!!!!”
