How do you usually decide on the concepts and themes for each album or era?
Kevin: First, consider if you want to continue doing what you were doing on the previous album or if you want to do something different. Then I get a demo and try to match the mood of the song.
Q: After a long meeting, the company decides on the concepts and themes to some extent, after which all the members gather their thoughts and ideas together and share them with the company.
Sunwoo: The company makes the basic idea and the members make the details.
What is your favorite song to play on stage and why?
Younghoon: Recently, the title track ‘ROAR’ from the 8th mini album ‘Be Awake’ is my favorite song.
Juyeon: My favorite song to sing on stage is our 3rd single “MAVERICK”. I think it’s a very powerful and uplifting song.
New: There is a fan song called “Timeless”. I think this is my favorite and most memorable song. Fans held an event in Seoul, the finale of our first world tour ‘The B Zone’, and I remember that scene very well.
Eric: I love all the songs we play on stage, but I think ‘Thrill Ride’ is the best. The song itself is exciting, but the fan chant is also exciting, so it’s fun and happy to perform on stage.
Tell us about a fun time or memorable moment you had as a group.
Jacob: Every time I spend with the members is a memorable and fun time, but I think the most fun and memorable moment is when we talk with B and work together.
Hyunjae: We are preparing for comebacks and concerts. All the members are practicing to harmonize and support each other.
Juhaknyeon: I think the most memorable moment was when we debuted. I still vividly remember the moment of joy with the members.
Eric: I don’t think I can choose, but I enjoy playing with the members in the practice room the most. Ice because Younghoon or Juyeon lost!
What are your future goals and plans as a group and as individuals?
Sangyeon: As a team, it’s about going to the point where everyone recognizes it. As an individual, my goal is to build my personal career so that I can reach my full potential anytime, anywhere.
Hyunjae: I want to go to more countries as a team and meet The B all over the world. And as an individual, I would like to grow through various entertainment activities.
Kevin: As a team, we want to expand further around the world. And as Kevin, I want to be an artist who has a positive impact on my fans. That is my biggest driving force.
Sunwoo: I think we have more to show musically, both as a team and as individuals. In the future, I want to put out more works and show them to The B.
What is one aspect of your artistry that you feel is under-told?
Juyeon: Musically, I want to be more diverse than I am now, and if I have the chance, I want to show my fans a more diverse side.
New: I’m sure there’s a lot more we haven’t shown you yet. I want to get closer to our fans and everyone and show them more.
Q: There are still many things I want to show you, so I would like to show you more diverse performances and music in the future.
What was the hardest hurdle to overcome as a musician?
Kevin: The hardest part was when we had to perform without an audience due to the coronavirus. The reason why I almost cried at the live after that was because I felt the importance of The B more.
Younghoon: I think it’s tough because it’s the first time I’m nervous, but the members and The B were by my side and helped me a lot.
Juhaknyeon: I don’t think there are any obstacles that come to mind. Maybe it’s because I think the members and The B are invincible.
What was the most exciting part of making Be Awake?
Sangyeon: Being able to show a side of us that we have never shown before. It was fun to create a good stage together with a new concept.
Jacob: The music video shooting for the title song “ROAR” was the most impressive. The 4 days of filming was a little tough, but I’m glad I was able to enjoy the filming with the members.
Jooyoung: This 8th mini-album follows the previous 7th mini-album ‘Whisper’, and I was excited to see a lot of new sides of us in the performance of ‘ROAR’.
Eric: Writing the lyrics, recording, and what I had envisioned gradually became a reality, and it began to appear as a completed song. I think every moment of songwriting is exciting.
what is your disability?
Younghoon: Does that mean you only know B?
Hyunjae: I’m a very shy person!
