Springbok and Cell C Sharks captain Siya Kolisi is one of the most recognizable faces in the game today.
A famous on-pitch player who led the Springboks to victory at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Kolisi transcended sport off the pitch.
Signing to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has made the Kolisi name synonymous with rugby excellence, even among those unfamiliar with the sport.
Kolisi, who is currently traded to the Sharks in Durban after long stretches in Western Province and the Stormers, played a key role in his side’s 50-35 victory over Irish powerhouses Munster. .
After an important victory in their first Heineken Champions Cup knockout appearance, the Sharks head to France to face five-time champions Toulouse in the quarterfinals.
After the game, Kolisi said:
“They are a great team and have a great history in this competition,” said Kolisi, who focused on Munster.
The week before their impressive showing against Munster, the Sharks had a flat performance against Welsh side Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship clash.
“As a team, if we can’t get up from last week’s results, we don’t have the right to play in the tournament.
“I am really proud of the way we have stood up.
“The energy they give us is huge.
When asked if he would support the Bulls, Kolisi replied, “I love South Africa,” before simply smiling.
Clearly aiming to make the sport bigger and more mainstream, World Rugby is fortunate to have stars like Kolisi in their ranks.
