Streaming service Spotify announced Thursday that it has launched a new year hub to help users ring in 2023. According to the company, this one-stop destination will give users access to classic party playlists and exclusive takeovers from artists such as Charli XCX, Rita Ora, N-Dubz and Céline Dion.
In a blog post, Spotify wrote, “We’ve got plenty of festive music in store, all in our new New Year’s Hub.” “Whether you’re looking for a chill night out or a heart-pounding dance fest, we’ve got a playlist of recommendations for the vibe you want to convey.”
New Year’s Hub includes many upbeat playlists like ‘Party Hits’, ‘Afro Party Anthems’, ‘Get Turnt’ and more. On the other hand, there are playlists for those who want a chilled out New Year’s Eve, with playlists like ‘Chill Hits’, ‘Comfort Zone’ and ‘Chillout Lounge’. New Year’s Hub also features many DJ mixes from artists such as Tiësto, Hannah Laing and Benny Benassi.
The company also announced that starting January 1, users will find content on the app’s homepage to help them set their resolution. Spotify hasn’t specified what the content will look like, but it could include things like workout and meditation playlists.
Spotify says there’s always been some level of anticipation for its platform around the New Year, and that’s reflected in user-created playlists. Last year, he had 82,000 New Year’s Eve playlists created between Christmas and January 31st, and nearly 40,000 that night. Pop, hip-hop, trap, K-pop and indie pop were the most played genres worldwide. The genres that saw the biggest increase in listeners were cumbia, discofox, volksmusik, schlager and partyschlager.
“Hey Yeah!”, “Uptown Funk” and “Mr. Brightside” were all popular among these playlists. Many of the songs that garnered more streams were Mariah Carey’s “Auld Lang Syne – New Year’s Hymn” and ABBA’s “Happy New Year”, which saw a 2,205% increase in views over his top spot. It was a song peculiar to the New Year.
