Support for Spotify Apple AirPlay 2 is still in the works, and the Swedish-based music streaming service has reportedly been confirmed.
In addition to supporting Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify users have long pushed for the streaming platform to start supporting the iPhone maker’s smart speakers, namely the HomePod and HomePod mini.

Spotify Apple AirPlay 2 support
A report by The Verge has confirmed that Spotify plans to introduce AirPlay 2 support to its iOS app in August 2021. But to this day it is still nowhere to be found.
When Spotify announced its plans to support AirPlay 2, it admitted it was facing some delays. The huge streamer blamed some “audio driver compatibility issues” at the time.
In 2021, Spotify assured that it “supports AirPlay2 and is working to make it happen.”
However, months have passed and that iOS app still does not offer AirPlay 2 support. It allows users to cast their music to speakers, TVs, and other devices. As such, some people were concerned that Spotify had abandoned plans to pursue it.
Spotify still working on AirPlay 2 support
But despite that long delay, it turns out Spotify is still doing it, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman talks about it in his latest Power On newsletter.
According to Mac Rumors, Gurman has confirmed that Spotify is working hard to bring AirPlay 2 support to the market soon.
The Swedish company says it “remains committed to supporting AirPlay 2 at some point in the future.” The streaming service hasn’t mentioned a specific timeline for its arrival.
But despite the unknown release date for AirPlay 2 support, Spotify assures it’s already “on the road to finally making it happen.” This is good news for Apple and Spotify users.
However, it looks like Spotify subscribers will have to wait patiently for its arrival. At the very least, the streamer confirmed that they are still working on it rather than scrapping it.

What about HomePods?
Gurman also noted in his newsletter that Spotify is eager to start supporting HomePod and HomePod mini.
