Texas-born singer-songwriter Jenna Lane hopped on The Complicated Tour as opener for Joshua Bassett, performing Friday through Wednesday at shows in Nashville and Atlanta on the tour’s Texas leg.The Daily Texan met with Raine to discuss writing their next song, getting ready for a tour, and returning to their hometown.
The Daily Texan: What about returning to play in your home state of Texas? Relive your musical journey?
Jenna Lane: Brings back so many memories. It also reminds me of my community (in Texas) and my family and friends. These people have been there since the first day I was playing at a random restaurant so it’s such a great full circle. .
DT: Do you have a favorite line or element of your recent single “Stupid Cupid”? What is special about you?

DT: What can we expect from the EP “Big Dumb Heart, Chapter 1” coming out in May?
JR: With this EP, I really tried to feature me at 16, 17 years old. I didn’t get to release a big project during that time as an artist, so I wanted to finish that story by looking back at how I felt in high school. , is going through my journey of observing people. Good people are hurt by bad people. It just happened all my life back home. It’s a little bit of a step back in time, but I think it will help a lot of people heal. “
DT: Given your large social media presence, how do you see the integration of your music career with social media?
JR: In some ways, social media has really helped my career. I am very honest and open with people. Who I am online is who I am in real life. On TikTok, before anyone knew I was an artist, I was the center of attention because of my personality. So why don’t people know I’m an artist?
DT: What was the most memorable part of preparing for your next show with Joshua Bassett?
JR: The most exciting thing about getting ready for the tour was the way Joshua asked me (to perform). It happened at the Grammy Awards event. He nonchalantly asked me if I wanted to go on tour with him and Lindsay Lomas. He was so sincere and reflected our friendship and community in this industry, so it was very special.
DT: What are your hopes for the future of your music career?
JR: I want to continue helping people heal. I want to give people a place where they feel loved and that someone understands their experience. It’s always been a big part of what I wanted to do my whole life. In my friendships with people, I am very approachable and I love listening to my friends and helping them with what they are going through.
