Exclusive chat with stars Peyton List, Sarah Yakin and Nick Pagliese screen rant About the mysterious circumstances surrounding Maddie’s death and the relationship that forms between ghosts.
Peyton List, Sarah Yarkin and Nick Pugliese Talk School Spirits
Screen Rant: If you had to describe your character this season in one word, what would be the first thing that comes to mind?
Peyton List: Pain.
Sarah Yerkin: Bitch.
Nick Pliese: Really?
Sarah Yarkin: Outside. I won’t give up the rest.
Nick Pugliese: I think it’s “sweet” for Charlie.
Maddie doesn’t know how she died, which is a surprise to the other ghosts.Will the season explore why her situation is so different from others?
Nick Pugliese: Yes, because it’s a special situation and as such there are questions that will be resolved and more questions will be discovered. [Laughs]
Sarah Yarkin: There are definitely twists and turns. A special case.
Peyton, after playing Tory cobra kai What has surprised you most about Maddie in a long time?
Peyton List: Compared to Tory, Maddie is pretty cool and down-to-earth, and Tory is getting more cool, but they are very different. Maddie feels a little more in control of her anger and her desire to fight.
Nick, how much are we going to learn about Charlie’s life before he died? I felt like
Nick Pugliese: Yes, it’s explored and you get to see a little bit of his life. You can see. Little by little you will see.
Sarah, I love your character. Rhonda is very closed, but she has a great sense of humor. Was she given a full backstory beforehand, or did you learn more about her by reading her script?
Sarah Yarkin: There was certainly an explanation for her, and she was down a dark road when she got the script, but for my audition, she explains a scene that tells how she was murdered. I think there was a side. So I knew I was going into it.
Then, as the series progressed, the show’s creators, Megan and Nate, gave us a sneak peek of what was going on. As I was advancing the character, it definitely helped me make choices. And when I saw her open up her heart, I thought, ‘Oh wow, I got to show a different side. It was cool.
What do the dynamics between all the ghosts look like? None of them are there by choice, but they’re stuck together forever. Found family tropes likely at work Do you have?
Sarah Yerkin: Certainly.
Nick Pliese: Oh yeah. The old couple, the family they found, everything.
Peyton List: People trapped in an environment with no escape.
Nick Pugliese: Good, bad and ugly things happen, but the bottom line is love.
