New Spotify Home page UI on Android and iOS faces backlash

Spotify recently redesigned the home page of its Android and iOS apps, allowing users to expand their recommendations.

The new home screen of Spotify’s mobile app has two sections: “Music” and “Podcasts & Shows.” The update also adds new buttons to quickly share, like and play your music.

However, the majority of users seem less than impressed with the new features and design changes brought to the homepage.

Many Android users (1,2,3,Four,Five,6,7,8,9,10) are rather disappointed by the recent changes introduced to the home page of the Spotify app.

The new home page no longer includes sections such as Daily Mixes, Recently Played, Trending now, and Popular artists. There is only a large icon showing a random playlist that takes up most of the space.

Also, the new home page UI requires users to manually switch to “Shuffle” for each playlist.

Some Spotify users feel limited by giant album covers while browsing music, forcing them to revert to older versions.

There are also some reports on the Spotify community forums showing users’ dissatisfaction with the new homepage design.

The new UI is terrible. Hard to navigate and lots of wasted space. It looks like a novice developer made it in his 10 minutes, so I don’t think it took too much time. Bring back the previous one.

Unfortunately the updated UI sucks. The homepage is completely useless. As an Android user, I find it much better to open the library directly. So if you choose never to look at that dreaded homepage, it will be our choice.Very disappointed with Spotify.

Unfortunately, Spotify hasn’t properly acknowledged this issue yet and encourages offensive users to reinstall the app or Reboot their device.

Also, there are no workarounds available to help temporarily fix this issue for Spotify users.

We hope that Android and iOS users facing issues with the new Spotify home page UI can get some rest soon.

5:11 PM (actual): Many users disagreed with many of the changes in the new Spotify homepage UI, but it seems definitive because the new update has extended them to the majority (1, 2, 3, Four).

10:19 AM (actual): Spotify support has responded to complaints about the new homepage UI and says it is currently testing possible improvements.

4:37 PM (actual): Spotify is reportedly planning to launch a TikTok-inspired UI next month. This is a vertical swipe home page designed to enhance discovery and attract younger audiences.

09:10 AM (actual): Spotify’s new TikTok-inspired UI is now open to users. Tapping “Music” or “Podcasts & Shows” takes you to a vertical scrolling feed similar to TikTok.

5:21 PM (actual): Spotify’s UI changes have been criticized enough to encourage several users to move to Apple Music, stating that it offers a better UI and sound quality (1, 2, 3,Four).

5:28 PM (actual): According to some users (1, 2), the new TikTok-like UI makes it harder to find music.

Apparently, the UI format, where one song takes up the entire screen while exploring, works well for video services, but not for music.

There’s a lot of wasted space where multiple other songs and podcasts fit. Additionally, the user has to scroll more (1, 2).

5:46 PM (actual): some users (1,2) Requesting a switch to allow switching between the “TikTok” UI and the old mode if the current UI cannot be fully restored.

6:30 pm (actual): Android smartphone users can downgrade to an older app version and disable the auto-update option.

5:45 PM (actual): a report suggests that the app automatically plays the next recommended song when the user scrolls down while listening to a song on the home screen.

12:59 PM (actual): Spotify recently overhauled its desktop UI, which some users strongly criticized (1,2,3,Four,5,6,7,8). Users are now asking the developer to revert this change.

Additionally, with the new update, the “Shuffle Playlist” folder option no longer works either. According to users, the team is currently testing a new desktop UI.
