The track was recorded at his home in Athens, Georgia with Jim White, The Glow Studios, also in Athens, with Jesse Magnum, and Drew Carroll’s engineering at Bomb Shelter in Nashville (Ben’s hometown). The track was produced by Jim White, mixed and mastered by John Keane. The song is a duet and features Becky Warren, one of Ben’s best friends and also a favorite songwriter in Nashville.

“Appalachian Book of the Dead”. So I started working on the song before I read the book, then I read the book and fell in love with it, and as soon as I finished reading it, I was able to fill in some of the blanks that were left in the song and it came together perfectly.
The song is definitely partly book-inspired, but mostly it’s an attempt to capture the feeling I always get when driving late at night through North Carolina and East Tennessee.
I love Poe’s quote, “The best stories are arabesques of supernatural threats and ironic jokes.” This is my feeble attempt to justify it. “
