The 2000s are back for a while when it comes to trends and music. You can clearly see that in the new music video for Mahalia and Jojo’s “Cheat.”
This unique collaboration uses fashion and technology from the late 90’s and early 20’s. Additionally, according to Mahalia’s recent Instagram post, the sound is both modern and nostalgic, particularly inspired by Brandi and Monica’s 1998 collaboration “The Boy Is Mine.” .
Regarding the new collaboration, Mahalia said in a press release: I’ve been a JoJo fan since I can remember, so having her on this record was a real dream come true for me. I love seeing people come together through hardships and everything in this song represents that. For me, this is a song about strength, power, and letting go. ”
Jojo added, “I loved teaming up with Mahalia on this totally infectious bop. Not only does the melody stick in your head, I’ve been there too. It feels so good to be able to sing with my friends about this very real part of , that there are boys who aspire to the streets and that they will never change.”
This collaboration is the second single from Mahalia’s forthcoming second album. in real life, released July 14. Check out the music video for “Cheat” above.
