Manchester United defender Luke Shaw didn’t hide his high emotions when the Red Devils suffered a disastrous defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has blamed his teammates for a lack of ‘passion’ and ‘attitude’ after the Red Devils lost 2-0 to Newcastle on Sunday.
United struggled to cope with their home opposition during the 90 minutes and the play at St James’ Park was less than exciting. Goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson ultimately saw United beaten, vacating him in third place in the Premier League.
It now comes to the end of the campaign, leaving Eric ten Hag’s side in the fight to finish in the Champions League place. Shaw never chopped his words in an attempt to assess his team’s monotonous play in the Northeast.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, he said: Not enough Whenever I talk about bad results after a game, I always feel like I’m being honest.
“We have to be honest as a team. I feel Newcastle are a very good team, but I don’t think they won today on the quality of the game. They have passion, hunger, desire, I think we won with attitude, higher motivation than we had.
“I feel like we say the same thing every time we lose. I said it was unacceptable and I know it. You can’t do that at Man United.”

Worryingly, Shaw admitted that he might have been able to see a performance like the one he had at St James’ Park two weeks ago. I think that is unacceptable and we can all admit it. That’s not what we’re aiming for. A big game like this requires motivation, passion, hunger and attitude. Because it is very difficult to come here.
“If you can’t do that, you’re going to suffer and that was evident on the pitch. We didn’t produce much on the pitch and you could say it was coming from before the international break.”
“We dropped the level and it was clear they weren’t there. Brentford will be a very tough game and we have three days to come back.”
Asked if the team should be told some Home truths, Shaw revealed that discussions were held between the teams to find out the reasons for the dismal performance.
“I won’t go into too much detail on that, but yes, after the staff were gone, the players were chatting a little bit in the dressing room, because it’s up to us on the pitch. I As said, it wasn’t good at all.” We had to raise our voices in front of each other.
“I think it’s important. We’re a team and when we go out on the pitch we have to fight for each other. I think this season sometimes doesn’t show that way. A good chat amidst the changes.” I’m sure we’ll look into it again and discuss it again after the room where we did it, because I think it’s important.
“We have to recognize the problem, recognize it quickly and change it because we can still have a very good season. But with a result like this and a performance like this we can’t do that.”
