(CNN) A US strike in Syria has killed a senior ISIS leader who was planning an attack on Europe, US Central Command said in a statement.
In a statement posted on Twitter, CENTCOM said the attack carried out on Monday was a “unilateral” US operation that killed Khalid Ayid Ahmad al-Jaburi.
Al-Jabouri was a senior ISIS official “responsible for planning ISIS’ attacks on Europe and building ISIS leadership,” CENTCOM said.
According to CENTCOM, no civilians were killed or injured in the strike.
“ISIS continues to be a threat to the region and beyond,” said CENTCOM commander General Eric Kurilla in a statement. “Though degenerated, the group can operate within the region with a desire to strike across the Middle East.”
Al-Jabri’s death “temporarily disrupts the organization’s ability to plan attacks from the outside,” the statement said.
The US said it was committed to the campaign to defeat ISIS, and said the operation was “continuing with partner forces in Iraq and Syria.”
The deployment comes just a month after US forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces conducted a helicopter raid in Syria that killed another senior ISIS leader, Hamza Al-Homsi.
According to CENTCOM, an “explosion” occurred during the raid, injuring four US soldiers and a working dog. Officials told CNN that US forces “approached” Al-Homsi when the explosion occurred, killing him and wounding a US soldier.
