From Mack Avenue Records
New US tour dates announced
June 8, 2023: Globally Acclaimed Artist Alfredo Rodriguez announced a new album Coral Way ’ will be released on August 18th via Mack Avenue Records. The album embodies Miami’s holistic sound, blending Latin his pop, timba, salsa, bachata, tango, reggaeton and bolero. Reminiscent of the city’s diverse Latino community, the album evokes Rodriguez’s roots as much as his newly learned experiences. Rodriguez also announced a number of dates for his fall US tour, including shows in Chicago, New York, Miami and Denver. See below for a full list of tour dates.
In his new home, Rodriguez noted the limited cross-pollination and little collaboration that exists between mainstream Latin music and Latin jazz. Coral WayFeaturing guest vocalists Cimafunk and Alana Sinkëy, the song acts as the connective tissue between these worlds. It is an artistic statement for the diverse Latin community to see, hear and take pride in their history while shaping community through individuality.
Rodriguez said: Coral Way It’s my new life That’s the name of the street I’ve been composing this album for the past three years, and now I’m thrilled to finally have this album heard extensively and fully by people around the world. It’s a live band. ”
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Rodriguez’s world was shackled by numerous state-imposed restrictions. With his options limited, his parents enrolled him in a classical music conservatory, but he was declared untalented by his first teacher and he was soon expelled. Despite the backlash, his love for the piano grew so strong that he was undaunted by the lack of a piano at home to practice on. Instead, he painted a piano keyboard on his parents’ dining table so he could weigh him on the scale.
In 2006, at the age of 19, he was invited to represent Cuba in the International Solo Piano Competition of the Montreux Jazz Festival (MJF). She applied as a composer alongside 12 of the world’s top pianists, auditioned, passed, traveled to Switzerland, and was eventually invited to perform in front of guests at the chalet of festival founder Claude Nobs. Became. She happened to be legendary producer Quincy Jones. Even when Jones returned to Los Angeles, her Alfredo was on her mind. He called his vice president, Adam Fell, explaining that Alfredo was one of the greatest pianists he had ever seen and that he needed to work with him. Little did they know that Alfredo only got permission to travel to Switzerland to compete (due to the difficulty of obtaining a travel visa for Cubans), and that due to the Cuban embargo, I also knew that working with Alfredo would be illegal.
Cubans were not allowed to work in the United States and could only arrive at the US border station to seek political asylum. This means Alfredo will have to renounce his Cuban citizenship, jeopardizing his return home until he obtains his green card. After deliberating for a year and a half, he mustered his courage and made the difficult decision to leave his family and relocate to a country that could provide him with the platform he needed to share the broader message of his music with a wider audience. made a decision.
Not only did Alfredo frequently appear on prestigious stages around the world such as the Playboy Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz in Marciac, Umbria Jazz and Jazz a Vienne, but Rodriguez It’s clear from the nomination that the trip was worth it. Received a Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acapella for “Guantanamera” from the album “The Invasion Parade”. Additionally, during his first tour of China, Rodriguez was asked to compose the English version of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo theme song in collaboration with Tang Dan, Sheeda Garrett and Quincy Jones, making him the first artist to be awarded this honor. Became a non-Chinese artist. .
During his international tour, Rodriguez continues to share music with shocking messages about patience and cross-culturalization, while also sharing various viral social media videos of him performing famous songs in Cuban timba style. See tour dates below.
