Ice Spice gave flowers to the late Pop Smoke as a pioneer of the New York drill movement in a new interview this week.

When the subgenre was first introduced, early drill artists like Pop Smoke, Chef G, Sleepy Hollow, and Busy Banks had an aggressive, street-laden sound. Many believe that Ice Spice took that sound and revolutionized the New York drill scene with its bubbly sound.
Ice’s groundbreaking single, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” greatly boosted her popularity, adding a twist to the Bronx drill scene that was booming with the likes of Kay Flock and DThang. Her next singles maintained that vibe with “Bikini Bottom,” “In Ha Mood,” and more.

“Gag!!! It’s ‘People’s Princess’,” Nicky captioned her story.
Nicki’s comment came after labeling Ice as the “princess” of rap in the comments section of an IG post from the Bronx over the weekend.
“Btchs are slow, so pass the pass. [fire emoji] no. Glad! No more overtaking princesses… let’s go,” Nicki wrote below Spice’s latest IG post.
Ice Spice responded to Nicki Minaj’s support on Twitter by simply writing “Ah.” Her post was accompanied by an old tweet from 2020 in which she rehearsed her response to Nicki, who follows her.
“OMG NICKI came with me aaaaaa!!! [love heart emoji],” read her tweet in November 2020, followed by another, “Practicing.”
