aurora | | The Aurora Public Schools Board will interview 6 unidentified candidates out of a total of 28 applicants to find a new superintendent.
“We felt like we presented a very strong slate,” said Mike Ritchie, vice president of HYA, the company APS works with to conduct the search.
Applications for the role closed on Friday, and the board met in a closed session on Tuesday night to present a list of six leading candidates. Board members were also able to view the full list of candidates online through HYA’s recruitment portal.
Candidates are grouped into three tiers, with the highest tier moving forward for consideration, Ritchie said.the criteria he said Based on candidate profile This is based on feedback gathered from a series of focus groups and interviews HYA conducted with community members in February.
According to the profile, people wanted the new superintendent to have characteristics such as a background in public schools, a track record on diversity, and experience in a large school district.
“In the Aurora situation, they really wanted an educator,” Richie said. “The theme was that they really wanted someone with a degree.”
A total of 30 people applied, Ritchie said, but one dropped out after accepting another job and one application was not considered because it was submitted after the deadline. He said he cannot share demographic information about candidates at this time.
The six candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Directors in closed sessions on March 26th and March 27th. Finalists will be announced at a special board meeting on March 28th.
In a previous interview, Ritchie said that HYA aims for three public finalists, but sometimes two or four. The company recently completed a search for a Superintendent of Littleton Public Schools and named two finalists.
