Subscribers to the Spotify music streaming service may be on the verge of getting a big new feature. And that’s something Apple Music should definitely incorporate into their app.
Confirmed by CEO Daniel Ek, the new feature is called “Your Offline Mix” and is designed to let people listen to something even when they don’t have an active internet connection to stream music.
Situations like this include when you’re boarding an airplane or when your local 5G connection isn’t as fast as possible. However, Ek didn’t elaborate on how the feature works, but what makes it most interesting is the ability to download proactive playlists. A screenshot shared by Ek suggests that the playlist created will span hours.
already in testing
As TechCrunch reports, some users have already shared details of the features they saw on their devices as part of Spotify’s testing. However, it’s not immediately clear how Spotify chooses which accounts to enable new features, or if those accounts are all Spotify Premium subscribers.
Ek’s screenshot shows “a mix of recently played songs that I use when the atmosphere is high but the connection is low.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Apple Music also starts offering a feature similar to Your Offline Mix. But the song is sure to be popular, as anyone who’s been on a plane and forgot to download the music will attest.
Of course, Apple Music subscriptions are available as part of the Apple One bundle, which also includes services like Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade and Apple Fitness Plus.
