Up-and-coming R&B singer Alex Vaughan has released his cover of Brandy’s 1998 hit “Almost Don’t Count” as part of a Spotify single.

LVRN’s Senior Vice President of A&R and Executive Producer Brian Michael Cox helped orchestrate Vaughn’s powerful performance. In this remake, Vaughan’s voice is reminiscent of Brandy’s original version, with a warmer texture, but with a new arrangement featuring a prominent piano.
“‘Almost Doesn’t Count’ is definitely one of my favorite records. never say never album. It’s a timeless ballad with an emphasis on lyrics and beats. I’m still in awe when I get asked to cover Brandy’s songs,” Vaughan said.
She added, “Brandy is such an iconic vocalist that I was a little apprehensive about recording, but I wanted to make the most of the song while adding my own twist to it. The legendary B. Cox was in charge of recreating and was very supportive in and out of the studio, making sure I was comfortable and ultimately enjoying myself. It gave me a different impression than what I had heard in years, which made me more immersed in the song.”
