(CNN) Two empty homes overlooking the canyon slid off their foundations in Draper, Utah on Saturday, prompting the evacuation of two adjacent homes, officials said Saturday.
In October, city hall officials declared two clifftop homes “unfit for human habitation” because “changes in the ground have caused the foundations of the houses to shift and collapse,” they said. City officials said in a Facebook post.
Officials say the city has been contacting developers for months about engineering studies on the stability of the area.
“Other homes in the neighborhood will be evaluated for safety concerns as the snowpack melts and conditions change,” the Facebook post said. are evacuating.”
Draper officials closed two public roads following the slide.
“Everyone should avoid the area. Do not go to the area where the house was destroyed. Only residents are allowed,” the city official said. “I am grateful that everyone is safe.”
Draper is located about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City.
