Stephen A. Smith has sent a message to everyone who is upset about the presence of Clay Travis on his podcast.
Smith hosted the Outkick founder on his Ordersy “Know Mercy” podcast earlier this week, where the two opinists shared their thoughts on cancel culture and whether Donald Trump is most likely to beat Joe Biden. We had a wide range of conversations about whether or not I would be a candidate. in the 2024 presidential election.
On social media and on sports blogs, ESPN talent Smith “platformed” Travis for being consistently critical of ESPN as a company and personally mocking the many on-air talent working there. There was a backlash against the idea. Too “awake”.
“I saw the reaction to my conversation with Clay Travis, who is clearly the successor to Rush Limbaugh, on his radio show. I’m hinting at it.”
Big Read Editor-in-Chief Kyle Coster After Smith Hosts Travis murmured“Though the sample size is small, Steven A. Smith’s latest pick for podcast guests was not a big hit internally.”
Ben Koo, owner and editor-in-chief of sports media website Awful Announce, tweeted, quoting Koster.
‘Stephen A is mostly paid and plays by his own rules,’ says Koo I have written“People at ESPN have long understood and accepted this. His interview with ESPN’s biggest antagonist yesterday had a huge impact on how he was viewed inside.” Mate’ is the kindest I’ve heard. ”
Smith was furious at the idea that people had a problem with him amplifying guests whose political commentary was polarizing.
“These people are the problem,” Smith continued. “I really enjoyed my conversation with Clay Travis. He has his opinions. I have mine. He articulated them clearly and convincingly. Agreeing.” You can also disagree, I have my opinion, that’s what makes the world go round, that’s the song “Know Mercy” and that’s the song that goes on forever.
“Let’s be clear: I talk to everyone. I disagree with many people and many things they say. I don’t see that as a reason to hate them.”
“Listen to me. If my claim is true, man or woman, admit it. If it’s still wrong and you believe it in your heart, say so! Move on! Because that’s what I’m going to do.”
Travis directly mocked Ku in a tweet on the subject.
“Name the ‘source’ or stop whining,” Travis said. murmured“People loved the @stephenasmith and me podcast. It didn’t even happen. So now we have to whisper about anonymous people who have been hurt.
