Described as a “respectful homage to Wardle”, Hurdle put a musical twist on the viral trend.
The daily online game acquired by Spotify over 5 months after it started gaining popularity among social media users. Users can guess what song is playing just by listening to the intro.
Like Wordle, the goal is to get the right song with as few guesses as possible.
Music games also record the number of games played, the number of wins, the percentage of wins, and the current and highest winning streak.
When the streaming giant acquired the game, it told fans it had a “new font” but “sounds just as good.”
Additionally, the game goes a step further by allowing players to expand their musical tastes by clicking tracks to add them directly to their Spotify playlists.
When will Spotify shut down Heardle?
However, Spotify issued a statement to fans saying, “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Hurdle.”
The Musical Intro Game will no longer be available starting May 5th.
Users are instructed to take screenshots and save their Heardle stats before May 4th, as they will not be able to access them after May 4th.
After the announcement, fans took to social media to share their thoughts.
As one wrote: “Why should we get rid of something that costs so little to maintain and brings joy to millions of people??
“There was so much you could do on this site, why did you choose this one?? I don’t understand #Heardle.”
A second user wrote, “Well #Heardle made me sad. I love playing this.”
