March, Announced plans with Google We are bringing a never-before-seen in-app purchasing experience to Android devices called User Choice Billing (UCB). This experience gives Spotify users the freedom to subscribe and purchase using their chosen payment option.
We have been working hard to build it ever since. Earlier this week, we began rolling out the first test implementation of UCB to Spotify subscribers in select markets around the world. Android users will soon be able to choose the payment method for their Spotify subscriptions that works best for them.See an example of a user journey underWe will be expanding testing to more markets in the coming weeks.
Spotify has publicly advocated for platform fairness and expanded payment options for years. We believe fair and open platforms enable better and frictionless consumer experiences, empowering developers to imagine, innovate and thrive.
We are very excited to be the first company to pilot UCB at Google. Our partnership opens new opportunities for other developers as well. Google shared additional details here.
Google has taken bold steps to level the playing field, and this is just the beginning. We look forward to testing, learning and iterating on continually improving experiences for our users in markets around the world.
