LEROY — On Wednesday, the Pine River Area school community will have the opportunity to meet a potential future superintendent of the district.
On Wednesday, the school board will schedule a second round of interviews with the two candidates it has selected as finalists. However, before the interviews begin, there will be a community meet-and-greet with her two candidates in Room 67 and Her 68 from 4:00 p.m. to her 5:00 p.m.
This open house time provides the public with an opportunity to meet each candidate and briefly interact with them.
After the two candidates have been interviewed, Powell Township School Principal, Transport Director and Principal, Michelle Gill, and Waldron Area School Principal, Jack Redford, will be interviewed for a second time. The public will have the opportunity to provide written feedback to the Board after each interview and after the open house.
Redford will be interviewing at 5:30pm and Gil will be interviewing at 7pm. The goal is to have a new superintendent in the district by mid-April or as negotiated.
Redford has been the Hillsdale County School District Superintendent and K-12 Principal since 2018. His career in teaching dates back to his 1982, Victory Hills.He has held multiple positions within Christian Academy, Bear Lake Christian School, Grant Public Schools, and Buckley. community school.
In addition to his work as an administrator and teacher, Redford has also worked as a coach and is currently coaching varsity baseball at Buckley Community School.
Gil’s current job is to perform the duties of Adjunct Superintendent, Principal and Transportation Director of a school in the small upper peninsula town of Big Bay, just north of Marquette. She also teaches at Northern University of Michigan’s School of Education, Leadership, and Public Service as an Adjunct Adjunct Professor in the Applied Workplace Leadership Program.
Most of Gill’s education career stems from nearly 20 years of human resources management in public schools in the Marquette area.
In December, Shawn Lewis-Lakin, a consultant for the Michigan State Board of Education, released a plan that includes a timeline that incorporates each step of the process. The board also decided what that timeline should be, informed preliminary posts, and selected a salary range for the position. That ranged from his $105,000 to his $130,000.
In January, there will be a stakeholder consultation meeting focused on gathering input from local administrators, elementary, middle and high school teachers and staff, transportation staff, and parents/community. was held. There is also an online survey for interested parties to complete, which closed on January 13th.
The meetings and surveys helped create the standards that the new superintendent would need to meet. These standards include strong communication skills, collaborative leaders, honesty, ethics, transparency in all matters, visibility, friendliness, accessibility to staff, students, and members of the community; It included highly responsive candidates.
