More potential jurors interviewed in Pittsburgh synagogue shooting trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Day two of jury selection for the Synagogue Shooting Trial in Pittsburgh’s federal courthouse has concluded.

On Tuesday, 19 potential jurors were interviewed, bringing the total to 35.

Maggie Feinstein, director of the 10.27 Healing Partnership, told KDKA-TV’s Megan Schiller that preparatory work began a long time ago.

“Jewish Family and Community Services, the Jewish Federation, the Federal Attorney’s Office, and we’ve been seeing each other for a year and a half, maybe two years,” Feinstein said.

Feinstein explained that the 10.27 Healing Partnership has worked to make this difficult court process bearable for victims and to think the little things up front.

“I’ve thought about everything from basic needs like transportation, food and water, to mental health support, to having someone to help me in court,” she said.

Twenty seats in the courtroom are reserved daily for victims and their loved ones. This partnership helped set up a separate private viewing area for him, separate from the public viewing rooms of the courtroom and trial. It’s just one way to make the spongy marble space feel more private.

“What we’ve learned through this process is that federal courts don’t have a lot of really big rooms,” Feinstein said. “And the federal courts are also, like you said, where you walk, and you really have to leave your stuff outside. You don’t have a phone, you don’t have liquids. There’s a lot to be said about being in a big, formal place. The Hall of Justice isn’t welcoming to everyone.”

And she refrained from coming downtown to all those who offered her assistance at the court, and instead, the three Jewish congregations affected and the first who were forced to relive the day during their testimony. I hope that this kindness will be directed to the respondent.

“During this testing process, the strain on the first responder community will be enormous,” said Feinstein. “That’s why so many firefighters, police officers and agency workers are one degree away from him. So we also take care of them, feed them, feed them.”
