An interview the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave to Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 caused ripples on both sides of the Atlantic.
With less than three weeks until the coronation of Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, Britain’s Daily Telegraph raised concerns about unconscious bias within the family following an interview in which Meghan wrote to her father-in-law. A person who expressed and commented on the color of a child’s skin.
The newspaper also cites a source who claims Meghan did not intend to accuse anyone of racism in her letter, but was concerned about unconscious bias.
The King, then the Prince of Wales, expressed disappointment at the division within the family and responded that her allegations had been made public.
The paper reports that both the King and Meghan agreed that the remarks were “innocent observations,” but a source told The Telegraph that Meghan had not received a satisfactory response to her concerns. No, and this was one factor in her decision to attend the coronation on 6 May.
Instead, Prince Harry will attend his father’s coronation alone and will be returning home soon, without attending any other public functions.
