Anything Emma Chamberlain welcomed a singer-songwriter Mac Demarco. DeMarco, a somewhat elusive artist who’s been largely out of the public eye in recent years before returning to music earlier this year, sat down with Chamberlain for a wide-ranging conversation.
Throughout the interview, Mac and Emma had a great relationship. The two spoke about their first meeting at Coachella, where Mac said he had just quit smoking and felt like he was eating mushrooms and was “totally insane.” DeMarco also reflected on how the music industry has changed with the rise of TikTok’s virality.
DeMarco also said of his onstage comments that made people think he was retiring from touring: “Maybe I’m retiring from the situation I was in.” DeMarco also talked about leaving social media completely, saying it’s a personal decision as to how much he wants to share and how much he wants to be present in his daily life.
DeMarco also touched on his brand, saying he strives to remain authentic in an era where you have the option of having your songs written by AI or by 15 anonymous songwriters.
Back in April, Mac announced a new project of previously unreleased material called ” One Wayne G. The project contains an incredible number of new songs, totaling 199 songs.
The project consists primarily of demos and sketches of his material from 2018 to early 2023, with many titles dated.
The sum of titles and tracks is One Way G This alludes to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Aptly titled Mac’s Record Label, Mac’s record label posted photos of the great hockey player on Instagram, one of which was captioned, “There’s only one Wayne G.”
Earlier that month, Mack announced a concert in support of his latest album. 5 easy hot dogs. Mack will perform in New York, Los Angeles, London and Paris, his first gig since summer 2022.
