Ted Russo has mastered the art of bringing us characters we fall in love with and rooting them to reach their full potential. Rebecca Welton, brilliantly played by Hannah Waddingham, goes from being a disgruntled ex-wife who hated what her husband left her with as her team thrives and becomes better. I saw him turn into someone who really wanted to.
It’s so beautiful to see Rebecca come into her own. In her season two, she broke out of her own shell and started caring about her team. So when she was happy to ask questions at the series’ global press conference, she asked Waddingham about Rebecca’s journey and her favorite part of Rebecca’s Season 3 her arc.
“I was very enthusiastic and passionate about AFC Richmond owner Rebecca fighting for her sons and being there.” In spades, I could lean into being that front man. and I won’t say they gave me everything I wanted, but they have, and like you said in season 2, she was head down and a little bit introverted. But there’s a bit of Welton in high spirits this season, and I’m really happy with it.”
And it comes across in that first episode. You can really see Rebecca rooting for her team and wanting to win in a way she’s never done before and it all comes down to how she actually loves her own team and her relationship with the team. Because they are!
Ted Russo Season 3 premiered on Apple TV+ this week, and we can’t wait to see what happens with Rebecca!
