Dexter Fletcher has quickly become one of my favorite filmmakers. It’s no secret, rocket man is one of my favorite movies, and I find the way he uses music in the film fascinating.And the latest to bring his musical tastes to the big screen is ghostIn the Apple TV+ movie, Ana de Armas and Chris Evans are potential lovers after Sadie (de Armas) becomes Cole’s (Evans) ghost.
In the movie, the “bad guys” are trying to steal the password from Taxman.The tax officer in question is revealed to be Sadie, but it leads us waiting The moment the Beatles song “Taxman” flows I will be in a movie. But this isn’t the first time music has been used to bring a scene to life.
So when I spoke to Dexter Fletcher ghostI asked about using music in something like this and using a musical take like his work rocket man (and his previous movies Sunshine on Lease using Proclaimer’s song).it came with me praising his work rocket man but.
“I am now thinking of rocket man, there is an incredible canon of music to choose from. And you and you get really deep into lyrics and phrasing and stuff like that. And how it tells you where you are in the storytelling process, how “I Want Love” tells a story about a family sitting around a table 30 years before this song was written. Can we do it?” said Fletcher. “but, ghost, “My Sharona” is like a good old bus chase track, with certain songs and certain tracks that I knew right away. I knew I had this pumping driving rhythm. It was about a man looking at this woman who blew him away and just wanted to be with her.
Fletcher kept talking about many of the songs that spoke to him. ghost“And that track spoke so much to me about that moment. “And how she can protect him in ways he never expected. So I don’t know, like with something ghost, it’s a process of trial and error, but bringing music and visuals together resembles one of the oldest forms of filmmaking. When movies were silent, they would be projected onto a seat, someone would play the piano, music and images would flow, and people would gather to watch it. So having music and images together is a very powerful motivation and a great storytelling vehicle. I just want to rely on my instincts and be fairly honest. “
