In a joint interview with Ulke TV and Kanal 7 on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had to abruptly pause the live broadcast.
He later apologized for his absence, citing sudden gastroenteritis.
Erdogan, now 69, is campaigning for the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections and made three speeches earlier in the day.
Due to his hectic schedule, the interview started more than 90 minutes late and was interrupted just 10 minutes after the show started, leaving reporters in the middle of asking questions.
However, the live stream was soon resumed, with President Erdogan explaining his unexpected absence and asking the audience for forgiveness.
“Yesterday and today were difficult. That’s why I got gastroenteritis,” Erdogan said. “At one point, I thought canceling the show would be misleading. But we made a promise. I ask forgiveness from you and our audience,” he said.
The Turkish leader then answered a few more questions before concluding the interview.
“My best wishes to Mr. Erdogan,” tweeted opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu shortly after the episode aired.
