Roadrunner Records band Empire State Bastard, who recently wiped out three venues on their first UK headlining tour that sold out almost instantly, have released a new video for their debut track, “Harvest.”
Directed by Nick Suchuk, the video features emotional live footage from all three shows of the tour, capturing the band’s instinctive and unpredictable onslaught.
Empire State Bastard is led by Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) and Mike Vennert (Biffy Clyro live guitarist and solo artist, ex-Oceansize), with legendary Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Testament, Mr. Bungle) is participating. Naomi MacLeod (Bitch Falcon) rounds out the live lineup on bass.
The Empire State Bastard concept was born when Neil and Venert sat in the back of a bus and spent some downtime on tour sharing the heaviest, most avant-garde and confrontational music they could find. Now, ten years after conception, the project has finally come to fruition, with Vennart writing the songs and recording all the guitars, and Neil concentrating on the vocals and lyrics.
The duo have released a collection of songs that adventurously explore hardcore slamming in the vein of Siege. The Slayer’s frenetic, visceral slash. Melvins claustrophobic sludge. The free vocal dexterity of Mike Patton. And Sleep’s huge stoner riff. A band rooted in the traditions of their metal ancestry, but informed by the recent wave of left-wing attacks.
Next up, Empire State Bastard will headline this summer’s Download Festival (June 9), HellFest (June 18), 2000trees (July 7), ArcTanGent (July 17), and Malakoff (July 21). It is scheduled for a series of international festival sets confirmed by ).
