Ridgecrest Regional Hospital will once again host its annual Butterfly Release on Saturday, May 20th at 11am in the front yard of the RRH.
What began as a hospice fundraiser has evolved over the years to provide a bonding experience between families whose loved ones are receiving comfort and palliative care and the caring professionals who provide that care. became.
RRH Foundation Director Kim Metcalfe said, “This is a celebration of our loved ones. This program includes commentary from Dr. Love Singh, Medical Director of RRH Home Health and Hospice Services, special music, and butterfly. Includes release.
Families can purchase painted female butterflies ($20 each) in honor of a loved one or as a keepsake. Names are read during the ceremony, and at the end the butterflies are released by family and friends.A small gathering for refreshments and fellowship follows.
“In addition to honoring those who have attended RRH Hospice or related programs, this is also a thank you to the wonderful staff who care for our patients,” Metcalfe said. “Caring for people in the final stages of life. It’s not something most people can do every day, it’s a call, and we’re so lucky to have people doing this for our community.”
Metcalf said the hospital has learned that out-of-town families appreciate having a way to participate virtually through online streaming during COVID. As such, this year will be a hybrid that includes video and in-person participation.
“Last year was our most attended event to date, and we believe we can build on that this year.”
