(CNN) Nima Momeni’s arraignment, which was scheduled for Tuesday in the murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco, will continue until next week.
Momeni’s attorneys requested more time to prepare, and the arraignment was reset for the afternoon of May 2.
Lee, who co-founded mobile payment service provider Cash App, was stabbed to death in the Rincon Hill neighborhood early on April 4.
Authorities say Momeni, 38, of Emeryville, Calif., and Lee knew each other and were in a car just before they were stabbed.
According to California Secretary of State records, Momeni was the owner of an IT business. He has been in custody without bail almost since he was arrested two weeks ago.
The district attorney’s office has suggested the alleged murder may have been premeditated.
“This is someone who was in the car with a kitchen knife,” San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said earlier this month. “It’s not something most of us carry with us all the time.”
Momeni’s attorney, Paula Canney, told KNTV a little over two weeks ago that there is “a much bigger backstory” than what has been revealed so far. There is.” She told the station that her client was not guilty of murder.
CNN reached out to Canney for comment on the alleged murder.
Alleged conversation between Lee and Momeni
Documents from the district attorney’s office show what officials said prior to the stabbing.
The motion to detain the documents cites witnesses interviewed by police and security camera footage, providing a detailed timeline of where Lee and Momeni were.
An alleged close friend of Lee’s witness said he went to his apartment on April 3 after being invited by Lee, where Lee was drinking with a woman later identified as Momeni’s sister.
According to the document, the witness told police that the woman was married but that “the relationship could have been compromised” and was unsure if the woman and Lee had been intimate. I told him I was going to a hotel room and invited the woman there, but she declined.
According to the documents, while in the hotel room, the witness said Lee had a conversation with Momeni, who said he was picking up his sister from the apartment where Lee and the witness had previously lived. The document states that he asked Lee “did his sister do drugs or anything inappropriate?” Lee said nothing inappropriate happened to Momeni, according to the document It says.
late night car night
After a conversation with Momeni, Lee and a witness went to Lee’s apartment until about 12:30 am on April 4, when Lee left.
Surveillance footage showed Momeni arriving at his sister’s apartment building in a white BMW around 8:30 p.m. indicates entering. Momeni gets into the elevator together and gets into Momeni’s BMW. Additional footage from the area shows the two driving a car together.
According to the document, the video shows the BMW driving into a “dark and secluded area” on Main Street, but is out of sight of the video of the exchange between the two men.
Eventually, the two subjects, who cannot be identified by their faces alone, but who appear to be wearing the same clothes, return to the frame. After approximately five minutes, the subject wore a white top that appeared to be worn by Momeni and “suddenly moved toward the other subject,” the document states. The two subjects are then separated.
The dark-clad subject, whom authorities believe to be Lee, walked north, while the light-coloured subject walked south and stopped along the fence, where the knife was eventually recovered. says the document. After that, the BMW will “take off at high speed,” the document says.
An autopsy revealed that Lee had been stabbed three times, once in the buttocks and twice in the chest. One of the stab wounds “directly went through” Lee’s heart, causing Lee’s death.
District Attorney Jenkins told a news conference that a kitchen knife was found near the scene, adding that the agency had “evidence beyond a reasonable suspicion that (Momeni) committed the murder.”
On April 11, investigators found a text message from Momeni’s sister to Lee that indicated her sister was checking in with Lee. It has been.
Momeni allegedly involved in another incident
Meanwhile, details of an August 2022 incident involving the woman and Momeni became available in a police report, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.
Police in Emeryville released Momeni on a misdemeanor battery charge after the woman reportedly attacked him, the paper reported, citing documents obtained in a public records request. CNN requested documents and contacted the Emeryville Police Department.
According to police reports, the woman whose name was redacted from the report and Momeni reportedly got into an altercation on the afternoon of August 1, 2022.
Momeni denied the allegations when questioned by responding officers.
According to the Chronicle, the woman told police that Momeni was prone to behavioral changes, saying, “He’ll be fine in no time, and the next minute he’ll walk away for no reason.”
In a statement to CNN on Monday, Momeni’s attorney Canney said, “It’s just a police report.”
“There were no arrests. No lawsuits were filed. The Alameda County District Attorney declined to press charges,” she said.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to CNN last week that it did not file charges, but did not provide reasons or details.
Police reports said the woman had met Momeni a week earlier and allowed her to stay on the sofa in exchange for cleaning the residence, adding that she had told officers that she and Momeni were not dating.
The woman told police she was in the loft kitchen when Momeni came downstairs, gathered her belongings and yelled at her to leave, reports The Chronicle.
According to the Chronicle, Officer Johnson wrote in the report that “Momeni forcibly grabbed her right upper arm and right waist area.” “Then he pushed her against the counter.”
According to the newspaper, he denied the allegations to police, and his roommate told police that he did not see any violence and that a woman appeared to be the perpetrator.
According to the Chronicle, Momeni told officers he wanted to charge the woman for pushing him the day before, but they also insisted, the report says.
CNN’s Cheri Mossburg and Phil Gast contributed to this report.
