ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque detectives arrested 16-year-old Jacob Lovato on Friday night after 17-year-old Gabriel Gruhl was shot dead during a gun-buying dispute.
Witnesses told APD homicide investigators that Gurule spent the night with friends at an apartment near Carlisle and Menaul to buy a gun. Witnesses said the Gruul and another person, identified as Jacob Lovato, were comparing pistols. One of the handguns was modified with an autoshear to become a full auto handgun.
According to eyewitnesses, Lovato asked Gurul how much it would cost to sell the gun.
Gurul said he would sell it for $950, according to eyewitnesses.
Lovato replied, “What if I keep it?”
According to eyewitnesses, Gurul said, “If you keep it, you must take my life.”
Witnesses told police that Lovato had a firearm in each hand and “sprayed” gunfire throughout the room, attacking and killing Gruul. The two escaped in another vehicle.
Homicide investigators have secured an arrest warrant for Lovato, who was arrested before 7 p.m. Friday in northwest Albuquerque.
Lovato will be charged with an arrest warrant charging him with murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence.
