Following the election of a new Board of Directors for the 2023-2026 term of the International Geothermal Association (IGA), Mr. Sylvain Brougre was unanimously endorsed and elected as the new IGA President. ThinkGeoEnergy would like to congratulate Mr. Slyvain on his well-deserved election. I also look forward to how the new board will guide the future direction of his IGA and the rest of the geothermal industry into new frontiers.
In order to better introduce Mr. Sylvain Brougre as the new Chairman, the IGA team conducted an interview with him. The full interview is posted below.
IGA team: Congratulations on being elected as the new IGA President! How does it feel to assume this leadership role at such an important time?
Mr. Brogre: thank you. I am humbled and honored to have the unanimous endorsement of my colleagues on the Board and look forward to assuming leadership as IGA President. For us, this is an important time to adapt our business approach and fulfill our mission to ensure the growth of geothermal energy globally.
IGA team: As the world faces challenges such as climate change, energy price volatility, and the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, how do you plan to address these challenges and accelerate renewable energy development?
Mr. Brogre: We must double down on international efforts and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy development programs to keep up with energy transition goals. The IGA will play a key role in reaching our zero carbon target by 2050.
IGA team: As the new president, what are your plans to step up your efforts on the ground?
Mr. Brogre: I have appointed five directors as vice presidents who will work with me and the executive team to build a strong local presence in five different regions: EU, LAC, North America, APAC and the Middle East. In addition, we have assigned general representatives to China and Africa.
IGA team: How would you describe IGA’s expertise, authority and best practices in the geothermal energy sector?
Mr. Brogre: An IGA should be known for its expertise, authority, best practices and standards on all geothermal issues. Accordingly, our directors contribute in particular to the following topics and themes:
- Global communication and advocacy for geothermal energy
- Financing geothermal power
- Global Geothermal and Sustainability
- Standards and best practices (resources, technology, risks, policies)
- UNFC
- Oil and Gas Collaboration / Global Geothermal Applications
- Learning and Development: Building a Global Training Curriculum
IGA team: What are your thoughts on diversity, equity and inclusion within the IGA?
Mr. Brogre: I fully support the IGA and encourage greater diversity, equity and inclusion. I am excited about this opportunity and very much looking forward to working with The Hague management team. I have a plan and supportive tools to carry out my mission, build a strong group with local and international knowledge, and fulfill my promise to shape my international ambitions and global reach. There is room.
IGA team: Thank you, Mr. Broglé, for sharing your vision and plans for the IGA. We wish you the best of luck in your new role and look forward to working with you and jointly growing the geothermal energy sector under your leadership.
