Los Angeles has climbed up the Western Conference standings in recent weeks and was looking to maintain dominance until they surrendered in the second half by beating the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
Utah forced overtime after James missed a potential game-winning layup at the end of regulation, but he made up for it with an eventual winner with 27 seconds remaining in overtime.
That ended the 38-year-old’s 37-point performance, and his teammates applauded him. It’s the sound of a goat. As James spoke to the media in the locker room after the game, his teammates were chanting goat hoots in the background, via The Athletic’s Jovan Buha.
Buha added that D’Angelo Russell, who came to the Lakers midseason in a trade from Minnesota, led the Brits.
James’ list of achievements speaks for itself, especially at the start of the season, as he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing record to become the all-time leading goalscorer in league history.
Now he’s tasked with helping the Lakers, who missed the playoffs last year. With three games left in the regular season and a battle to avoid a play-in tournament also materializing, James could take another blow in the all-important stretch.
