6 cattle found dead in 3 Texas counties, all with their tongues missing

No signs of struggle, no blood spills, no visible marks. Texas officials are unlikely to continue the investigation after six cows were found dead with tongues missing in three separate counties.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media about the cow on Wednesday.

The first case was reported after ranchers found a 6-year-old Longhorn Cross cow “dead and mutilated” in Madison County. The cow was found on its side and completely stripped of skin around the tongue and mouth, but no blood was spilled.

There was no sign of struggle. When the cow was found, the grass around it was undisturbed and there were no footprints or tire tracks.

“Ranch owners have reported that no predators or birds have scavenged on cattle carcasses, nor have they been left unattended and rotting for weeks,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

As officials investigated the mysterious cow death, five cases were reported in two other counties, Brazos and Robertson.

The MCSO said four adult cows and one calf were found dead, all in different locations, pastures and herds.

All of the cows were also found lying on their sides and had “precise” cuts along their jaw lines and missing tongues, deputies said. He also had cuts along his genitals in two of his five cows.

Again, no signs of struggle, grass undisturbed, blood spilled.

The cause of death for all six cows is still unknown.

“Several similar cases have been reported across the United States, and we are actively coordinating with other agencies to find solutions,” the sheriff’s office said.
