Fayetteville, Arkansas — On Monday night, the district held a meeting for the superintendent to meet with members of the Fayetteville community.
“I was privately educated for the first five years and then publicly educated for 21 years,” said Fayetteville’s new superintendent, Dr. John Mulford.
During that time he was responsible for school districts ranging from 2,500 students to 25,000 students. Now he’s tough in one of his 10 largest districts in Arkansas.
“I am thrilled to be in a district that is committed to the success of all our students,” said Dr. Mulford. “Certainly, whenever I try to look for opportunities, I get nervous.”
But taking on the role of incoming Superintendent of Fayetteville Public Schools is the role he wants, he says. decided to The district began searching for a new superintendent in August after Dr. John L Colbert announced his retirement.
Commitment to school safety

“We also try to be as competitive as possible in terms of wages and the kinds of things that attract people. I wish there was a magic potion out there, but frankly , almost every district across the country is dealing with it,” Dr. Mulford said.
He says the plan is to ensure that Fayetteville schools are places people want to work.

“Ultimately, we intend to follow the guidelines provided by state leaders,” said Dr. Mulford.
When Dr. Mulford takes on his new position, he says, not only did the school district choose him, they chose the school district.
“Fayetteville aligns with my personal beliefs about education: my commitment to serve others. That’s it,” said Dr. Mulford.
Dr. Mulford will take over as superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year and will move to Northwest Arkansas in June.
