ARLINGTON, Texas — Two students were injured in a shooting outside a Dallas-area high school Monday morning, and police have arrested a suspected shooter, officials said.
Police and school district officials said the shooting began around 6:55 a.m. on a high school campus outside Arlington, with many students returning to classes on the first day of spring break.
One student was injured in the shooting and another was injured in “gunshot shrapnel” and both are receiving medical care, according to Arlington Independent School District spokeswoman Anita Foster. We were unable to immediately provide further information regarding the identity or condition of
Arlington Police said the suspect never entered the Lamar High School building and was arrested shortly after officers arrived on the scene.They said the scene was safe in a tweet at 7:21 a.m.
Because the suspect is a minor, he will not be identified publicly, police spokesman Tim Ciesko said. The ministry said it would provide more information at an afternoon press conference.
School buses and other arriving students were diverted from campus before classes began, Foster said. Authorities urged parents and others to stay off campus while police investigated. Police completed a search of the school building at 10:40 a.m. ” announced that it will be released to parents.
