BLONTVILLE, Tennessee (WJHL) — Nearly four decades later, Sullivan County investigators say interviews with an informant helped identify a suspect in the murder of Floyd “Otis” Turner.
Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office officials said Turner was found dead in his car in July 1984.
Now, decades later, a grand jury has decided that, if we were still alive, there would be enough evidence to indict Johnny Barb for murder.
Sergeant Robert Clemons said he conducted an interview in 2022 that allowed investigators to link Barb to the case.
“One of the breakthroughs was being able to contact a reliable informant who knew the suspect,” Clemons said.
Clemmons said the informant was willing to talk about Barb after he confirmed he was dead.
“During conversations with that informant, he revealed to me that the suspect had been talking about the murder in the late ’80s and gave similar details to the exact details of the case,” Barb said. Told.
Clemons said he was happy to help bring Turner to justice after all these years.
“The main purpose of criminal investigations is to help victims’ families and victims themselves, so I feel happier for them than anything else,” Clemons said.
Turner’s brother, Don, told WATE’s sister station, WJHL, that he still has questions about what happened to his brother, but is happy that a suspect has been identified.
“I’m grateful they got it now,” Turner said.
