Spotify announces new ‘niche mixes’
Spotify rolled out Niche Mixes, an all-new feature that curates personalized and unique mixes based on the music you enjoy.
The feature was announced in a Spotify blog post on March 28, 2023.
Niche Mixes is expanding the Spotify Mixes family. This is a set of personalized playlists that combine everything our Mixes has to offer in a playful way. We give listeners access to tens of thousands of unique mixes based on pretty much anything they can think of.
This comes a month after Spotify introduced another unique feature. In February 2023, Spotify partnered with his NFT project to begin testing NFT-locked playlists. However, these are playlists, not mixes, and Spotify doesn’t curate them and they aren’t personalized, so they’re radically different.
What is a Niche Mix on Spotify?
Niche Mixes is an extension of Spotify Mixes personalized playlists based on your favorite eras, artists, genres and moods.
But what is a niche mix?
The hint is in the name. A niche mix is a unique and sometimes bizarre mix inspired by your tastes. For example, I found the “Dogs Pet Calming” mix in my Niche Mixes, which was a little out of left field. These mixes are inspired by the artists, genres, and decades you love, but Spotify also throws in songs they think you’ll love, so expect a few surprises.
Spotify shows 5-10 niche mixes. made for you section. However, you are not limited to the mixes displayed there. You can also search for specific mixes (more on that below).

Spotify’s niche mixes are great, but they need to be easier to find
At first glance, the Niche Mixes feature seems like another unwanted mix from Spotify. However, niche mixes are unique to your tastes, so they’re worth a try.
That said, don’t expect to love every niche mix, as some may not make sense. you will wonder. That’s how I felt about Dogs Pet Calming Mix (I’ve never had a pet). is also not a big deal.
