(CNN) Italian authorities are searching for a man who jumped from a three-story building in Venice into a canal on Thursday.
The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, called the man an “idiot” and said in a Twitter post that he would give the man “certificate of stupidity and many kicks,” which went viral on social media.
The mayor also added a video of the diving to his account and said the man who took the video and his accomplice would be arrested. It can be seen jumping from the rooftop into the canal and landing on its belly.
“We are trying to identify him and report him, him, and his associates below who made a stupid video for social media.
The mayor also said police were dispatched to the building to find out how the man was able to enter the privately owned building and how he ended up on the roof.
“He risked his life on that jump, but he’s also a rogue. They don’t understand the danger they pose to this city. What if a boat was passing underneath? ”
Burgnaro urged anyone who saw the video to help identify the person, who he called a tourist.
“They are doing stupid things on social,” the mayor said, adding, “We will use the law to prosecute him.”
Jump is just a recent report of people misbehaving in Italy, especially those who have visited Italy.
Last year, more than 40 tourists were arrested for swimming (sometimes nude) in Venice’s canals, and one man was arrested for surfing the Grand Canal.
Elsewhere, an American tourist was fined for throwing an electric scooter down Rome’s Spanish Steps, causing damage worth $25,000. A Saudi tourist has been fined for driving a rental Maserati on the Spanish Steps.
Another traveled down Florence’s pedestrian-only Ponte Vecchio by car, while another took a moped joyride through the ruins of Pompeii.
Other tourists smashed statues in the Vatican Museums.
Tourists have also been fined for carving initials into landmarks, stealing blocks of Rome’s Colosseum, and stealing everything from mosaics to fingers from the country’s world-class monuments and museums.
