Singer releases highly personal song that pays tribute to Windrush generation
Charlene Monique Released a heartfelt new single, ‘thank you’ This is a tribute to the Windrush generation as it approaches its 75th anniversary on June 22nd. Inspired by soul, gospel, R&B and reggae. Produced by Chris Morris, this hymn was released in honor of her grandparents and shares the hope, courage and determination of those starting a new life in England in the 1950s.
Charlene Monique’s recent career highlights include bespoke performances and recordings for Shure UK’s ‘Make The World Your Stage’ campaign, and jazz pianist Robert Mitchell’s (True Think) album ‘Hold The Light’. Includes two feature tracks from Charlene Monique is the host of the second series of Melanation Stories, her five-part documentary exploring the experience of melanated British people across London. This will air on TBN UK in the fall and will include an episode celebrating the Windrush generation. As lead vocalist, she’s no stranger to television screens and the big stage, having toured the UK for 15 days as a supporting act for British pop legend Gabriel.
She has been singing with the Kingdom Choir since her unforgettable performance at the 2018 Royal Wedding in front of 2 billion television viewers worldwide. She co-wrote the song “Be Alright,” which was featured on the exclusive Apple Music “Home Sessions,” released in 2022.
2023 has a number of exciting appearances planned. These include a performance at Southwark Cathedral on Windrush Day’s official Thanksgiving service, ‘Windrush 75’, where she will perform ‘Thank You’, which was broadcast live by the BBC. , a live performance by Pizza Express, and a live recording with Stabal. She is currently recording her new album with the support of Help Her Musicians UK.

“As proud granddaughters of Caribbean immigrants, it was an honor to write this song with Mahalia Fontaine to celebrate them. “I am” is due to the sacrifices my grandparents made, and I am passionate about keeping their memory alive through this song. “
