Outcast Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced on Twitter that he’s launching a new show.
The announcement was made in a video on the social media site two weeks after he abruptly left Fox News.
Carlson said:
Elon Musk said Twitter has no agreements with hosts and hosts follow the same rules as other “content creators.”
On Tuesday, Carlson said he would be bringing a “new version” of his show to Twitter soon, in a message captioned “We’re back.”
“Twitter has long served as a place where our national conversations hatch and develop.
“Twitter is not a partisan site. Everyone is allowed to be here. I think that’s a good thing.”
In April, Fox News announced in a short statement that the network and Carlson had “agreed to part ways.”
His final television show for the network aired a few days ago.
The 53-year-old was not only a popular Fox News host (watched by more than 3 million viewers a night), but also a very influential one.
His shows often set the agenda for conservatives and, by extension, Republicans.
“We also want to clarify that we have not signed any kind of contract. Tucker is subject to the same rules and rewards as all content creators.”
The former Fox News host’s comments follow his first public statement in late April after he was kicked off the network.
In those remarks, he lashed out at honest people for “liars trying to silence.”
He ended his comment by saying:
Carlson’s sudden announcement of his resignation came shortly after Fox News paid $787 million (£631 million) to settle a defamation lawsuit filed by voting machine company Dominion.
In the lawsuit, Dominion claimed its business was harmed after Fox spread false claims that its machines were rigged against former President Donald Trump. The incident prompted the disclosure of text messages that publicly aired Carlson’s private views on colleagues at Trump and Fox.
The Wall Street Journal, which is owned by News Corp, which also owns Fox News, reported last month that his contract is worth about $20 million a year.
