Kohane’s call of the Manhattan District Attorney’s investigation of Trump a “political witch hunt and forced prosecution” echoes the former president’s portrayal of the investigation.
“Witchhunt, go to hell for a once great country!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, minutes before the plane left.
Another supporter outside Trump Tower agreed the country was headed in the wrong direction.
“Have you seen your 401K?” asked Vito DiChiara. “when [Trump] I looked at it and said it would work for me, but now I look at it and I don’t think it will work.
The former president will stay overnight in the Trump Tower penthouse before heading to court on Tuesday morning, according to a travel plan his team released Sunday night. At approximately 2:15 p.m., an arraignment will take place and fingerprints and photographs will be taken.
Trump, who is seeking re-election in 2024, is expected to surrender after being indicted. He is suspected of paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, a charge that has not yet been made public. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office initially wanted him to surrender on Friday, but his attorney said the Secret Service, which provides security details for the former president, needed more time to prepare.
Once processed, he returns to the Mar-a-Lago mansion for a week. The former president will return to his regular schedule, which includes dinners with his family and colleagues and a round of golf at a nearby club. Trump plans to speak at an event at his Palm Beach mansion on Tuesday night, the Associated Press reported, citing his campaign.
There is nothing else on the public agenda for Monday and Tuesday, but Trump’s campaign says it will “work again” on Wednesday. He’s scheduled to speak at the National Rifle Association conference in Indianapolis in mid-April, but he doesn’t have any other big events on his calendar.
