Q. William Byron, I saw the frustration and the fire in you a year ago when you were knocked out of first place with two points to go. A year later, you’re back here to make amends a little. Please verbalize what this means.
William Byron: Yes, it’s pretty cool. My grandfather passed away on Thursday. I wish my family were here. Honestly, there’s a way things work out. That’s just how it happened today. It wasn’t the best third stage. We just kept fighting and little by little things got better.
I want to wish my mother a happy mother’s day. My sister just graduated from school and it’s a very big day. I certainly didn’t expect this. But thanks to the great team. Yes, things have a way of working, and coming back here to Darlington, it’s going to go the other way.
Q. Of course, there is much to celebrate. NASCAR is his 75th anniversary. We do it at the second oldest track in Darlington. I just heard your team say he won 100th place on Team 24. What can you say about this team and the process you guys went through this year?
William Byron: Yes, I am just grateful that I was able to ride this No. 24 car. I feel like I was too young at the time, but I’ve grown, matured, and had a great team around me to build our core. We have great guys like Rudy, Brandon McSwain and Tyler. The person in charge of my car, everyone in the team has done a great job of preparing a good car and we are working hard on it. It’s nice to see things go your way, even once.
