Raymond, Minnesota. — An early morning train derailment forced residents of a small town in Kandyyohi county to evacuate on Thursday.
In a statement, BNSF Railway said about 22 vehicles derailed around 1 a.m.
The sheriff’s office said some of the derailed cars were carrying ethanol and corn syrup, which set them on fire.
Parts of the town near the crash site were evacuated to nearby Princeburg schools.
Travel is discouraged in Raymond, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Highway 23 is closed from Kandyyohi County Route 1 to Chippewa County Route 1 due to derailment and fire, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

BNSF said no injuries were reported and there was no estimated time to reopen the railroad.
The Red Cross also responded to assist evacuees and first responders.

Raymond, with a population of about 800, is located about two hours west of the Twin Cities and 14 miles southwest of Wilmar.
