Throughout his illustrious career, Richard Wilkins has interviewed hundreds of celebrities, from the good to the bad.
The 68-year-old, now Weekend Today’s entertainment editor, revealed that the worst interview he’s ever done was with Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall.
A TV host said the 62-year-old British singer refused to shake hands and was “the rudest person” he had ever interviewed.
Wilkins explained that he met the rocker the night before and shook his hand when he presented him with a gold record at a music industry event.
The pair seemed friendly at first, but things changed the next morning when Hucknall sat down with him for an interview.
“I said, ‘Hello, Mick,’ and held out my hand. “I shook your hand last night, you don’t have to do it again,” he says.
“He later revealed that he used to hit pretty hard, so I don’t know if he was doing good the night before.
“I remember my boss saying to me that day, ‘If someone treats you like that, walk out the door.'”
It’s just days after Channel Nine’s showbiz reporter relived his grisly moment with famous actor Keanu Reeves.
Wilkins shared a throwback video of the embarrassing 2021 interview as part of 9Honey’s Dickie’s Diaries.
The Hollywood star silenced a veteran reporter after Wilkins admitted he didn’t understand the plot of The Matrix Resurrections, which starred 58-year-old Reeves.
Reflecting on his 2021 affair with Keanu, Wilkins said he thought he might have pissed off the actor with a question about the Matrix revival conspiracy.
